Vibration vs percussion: what actually changes?
Both categories create mechanical movement, but speed and stroke amplitude can produce a very different feel.
High-frequency vibration
Rapid Release reports 4,000–10,000 VPM across its current lineup, depending on device and setting. Its comparison material describes a short 1/16-inch stroke for the platform.
Percussion
Rapid Release's own comparison material cites roughly 2,100–3,600 RPM and a substantially longer stroke for typical percussion devices. Exact specifications vary by competing model.
Why speed alone is not enough
A higher cycle count does not automatically mean a device is “stronger” or better. Stroke distance, contact surface, pressure, ergonomics and intended use all affect the experience. Compare the complete mechanism rather than a single headline number.
Which category fits your preference?
Consider vibration if you specifically want fast, shallow movement and a linear device. Consider percussion if you prefer a more pronounced rhythmic impact and the attachment ecosystem common to massage guns.
